Mabel Jane Whitmer (nee Hoops), age 95, entered into the arms of Jesus on Fri., Feb. 20, 2026, in Mansfield, OH. She was born June 10, 1930 in Shawnee, OH to Ruth (nee Lowry) & Charles Hoops. She married Eugene R. Whitmer on Oct. 21, 1949 & they celebrated their 70th anniversary before his death in 2020. Their heavenly reunion was long-awaited by Mabel, a devoted & loving wife to Eugene.

She was dedicated to supporting her husband in his ministerial career & worked most of her adult life outside the home, finally retiring from Morrow County Office of Job & Family Services. In her free time she enjoyed playing piano & singing. She was an excellent seamstress & also enjoyed canning produce from Gene's garden. Always thinking of others, Mabel took time to create beautiful & practical items like crocheted dish towels to give to friends & family.

Spending time with her loved ones was one of her greatest joys & her kind, easygoing nature was a blessing to those who knew her. Surviving are her 4 children, Gloria George (Dennis), Sharon Smith (Allen), John Whitmer (Barbara) & Joy Miller (Raymond), siblings John Hoops, Donna Begley & Elaine Imler, 15 grandchildren & many great grandchildren, all of whom Mabel spent many hours covering in prayer.

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, by siblings Charles, Robert, James & Bill Hoops; Marilyn Roberts, Marie Bougher, Eleanor Begley & Norma McLean & by a granddaughter.

Friends are invited to join the family Fri., Feb. 27, 2026 for a visitation from 10 AM until funeral service at 11 AM at the Pleasant Grove Community Church, 5471 St. Rt. 546, Bellville, OH 44813. Burial will follow the service in Lexington, OH Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church.
