Jerry I Schwartz

July 11, 1932 — April 28, 2024

Cleves

Jerry I. Schwartz, 91, Apr. 28, 2024, Cleves. Beloved son of the late Anne (nee Chomsky) & Ralph Schwartz, dear brother of the late David C. Schwartz MD (Madeleine) & loving uncle of Rebecca Schwartz, Laura Schwartz Young, Andrea Schwartz Thaman (Ethan Thomas), Alan Schwartz & Barry Schwartz.  Jerry was born in Cincinnati in 1932. At the time, his family lived in Dearborn County, IN. The '37 flood forced them out of their home & they soon settled in Cleves, OH. Jerry's father purchased the building & business at 101 S. Miami Ave. from the Hunt family, who had been operating a general merchandise store at this location since 1884. The Schwartz family had living quarters alongside the store on the first floor & rental units on the second. Jerry was a 1950 grad of Taylor High School, North Bend, OH where he was heavily involved in Journalism. His first paying job was writing a sports column called "The Scoreboard" & he eventually published a weekly newspaper. Shortly after High School, he was drafted in the Army. After proudly serving his country, Jerry attended the Univ. of Cinti. where he earned degrees in Applied Arts & Design. Soon, he joined his father in the family business & at his father's passing, he became the sole proprieter. About 20 years later, Jerry decided to expand into screen-printing and embroidery. Thus, Logo Art was born. In addition to selling spirit wear for the surrounding schools, Jerry traveled all over the Midwest, selling his wares. He created artwork for motorsports events, 4X4 clubs & car clubs. He designed, printed & sold t-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, hats & other promotional items.  At it's inception in 1971, Jerry became involved with IOK Four Wheelers & also the East Coast Four Wheel Drive Assn. Without fail, he attended their functions at Gravelrama, Spring Fling, Last Blast & more. He quickly became a staple in the racing community & rarely missed the chance to set up his booth at an event. For years, people from all over the world have purchased his merchandise & supported his unique small town business. In 2023, at the age of 91, Jerry made the difficult decision to close the store after 87 years of operation.Somehow, in addition to his vocation, Jerry found a way to be "Mr. Community." He was a longtime leader of the Cleves-Three Rivers Kiwanis, the Cinti. Jazz Club, the Classic Car Club, the Rising Sun & North Bend Boat Clubs, the Southwest Ohio Kiwanis Mental Health Assn. & was longtime chair of the area Kiwanis Student Recognition Awards Day. "May his memory be a blessing." Services will be held at the Dennis George Funeral Home, 44 S. Miami Ave., Cleves, OH  45002 on Thurs., May 2 at 1 PM with visitation beginning at 12 noon. Interment following in Kneseth Israel Cemetery, Covedale. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati.  www.dennisgeorgefunerals.com
