Obituary

David Sturgill, 57, of Lawrenceburg, IN, passed away suddenly on August 31, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Dondi Wray. After both having full lives and raising families with children prior, Dave and Dondi didn't find each other until they were 50 years old, sharing a deep, hard-won bond and looking forward to retiring at 62 to buy a motorhome and travel the country, alongside plans for an epic cruise to both Alaska and Hawaii.

He was a devoted father to Derek Sturgill, Alexis (Jake) Hornberger, Brooklyn (Jacob) Sturgill, and Haleigh Hite, as well as a proud and loving grandfather to Emma, Paisley, Nolan, Camden, Lucas, and Colbi. Dave was fiercely supportive, never missing a single game and always showing up for his children and grandchildren. He spent years as a dedicated softball coach—from T-ball all the way to coaching his grandkids—legendary for bringing orange slices to every single game.

A natural practical joker, Dave always managed to find a way to slide in a classic dad joke. He was also an animal lover whose heart was quickly and completely won over like no other by his beloved dog, Izzy, who was truly his baby. When he wasn't spending time with his family or his pup, he could be found cheering on the Cincinnati Cyclones as a loyal season ticket holder, or eagerly planning out his dream wood shop for the time he would spend at home after retiring.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Ogden (nee Bader), dear brothers Scott (Nicki) Sturgill and Matt (Bridgett) Ogden, and was preceded in death by his father, Gregory Ogden, and mother-in-law, Carolyn Kirkman.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Dennis George Funeral Home, 44 S. Miami Ave., Cleves, OH 45002. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Cincinnati Chapter, c/o the funeral home.
