Cynthia Sue Waldeck

January 28, 1932 — February 12, 2024

Aurora

Cynthia Sue Waldeck (nee Caudill), most recently a resident of Aurora Indiana, was born January 28, 1932 and passed away February 12, 2024 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Jack Waldeck and her brothers, Charles Caudill and Bruce Caudill. Her legacy of love lives on through her children, Beth Boucek (Michael), Carolyn Diener (Chris), Melinda Sala and Matthew Waldeck (Jenny). Sue's love and caring ways extended to her 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and her dear nieces and nephews. Sue is survived by her cherished sister, Bonnie R. Czirr (the late Albert “Carl” Czirr). Sue's family was the center of her life and she directed boundless love, time and talents toward them.

Sue was born in Williamson, West Virginia to Hazel Mae and Elmer Caudill and became part of a large family as her parents unselfishly raised several of their own siblings. Sue often said she felt more like a middle child rather than the first born that she was in her parents busy household. Leaving West Virginia the family moved to North Bend, Ohio. They lived on a farm on Shady Lane through the difficult years of the Great Depression and World War II. Sue would tell stories of churning butter and feeding chickens there in her early years. Later the family would move to Cleves,Ohio. Sue graduated from Taylor High School and then attended Cedarville College. She met the love of her life, Jack, and they married in June 1951. Sue remained stateside as Jack served as a Marine Hospital Corpsman in the Korean Conflict, earning a Purple Heart. In the fall of 1952 they started their family and soon settled in the close knit community of Sayler Park, raising four children there. Cincinnati Chili, Texas Hash and Mom's stew were typical fare in this happy home. The family vacations were always camping trips, often with friends and relatives. Sue's vibrant energy, talents and resourcefulness made her well known in Sayler Park as an active member of the Methodist Church, a Girl Scout leader, school cafeteria aide and medical assistant. She was a gifted seamstress and an inspired homemaker who could transform any house into a welcoming home. Sue sewed prolifically, making lovely clothing, draperies, curtains and intricate quilts, as well as countless knit scarves for family and friends.

As Jack's career path led them away from Cincinnati and towards several northeastern locations, Sue's resilient and fun personality attracted new friends everywhere they went. Upon Jack's retirement they built a new home in Aurora, Indiana and happily reconnected with family and friends while continuing to bring new people into their lives. Jack and Sue loved hosting and were appreciated for organizing many holiday gatherings, house boat trips, church picnics, card games, fishing in their pond and accommodating overnight guests. Lucky visiters might get to enjoy some of Sue's sugar cookies or a slice of her amazing custard pie!

Sue told everyone how much she loved them in so many ways. Her passing leaves us with a profound sense of loss for her earthly being and we seek comfort in the knowledge that her beautiful soul is now with The Lord.

A farewell and visitation gathering for Sue will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 from 10 AM to 12 noon , followed by funeral service at Dennis George Funeral Home, 44South Miami Ave, Cleves Ohio, 45002. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, 9744 Valley Junction Road, Cleves Ohio 45002.
