Silver hair, hard won, proudly worn. The badge of one who worked hard and long at her craft: the making and keeping of a home. Never envious of other women with careers, she was content with her calling to be a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend. Her husband never had to wonder if there would be supper on the table or clean clothes to wear. In later years, when he became blind, she uncomplainingly took on the role of chauffeur and personal secretary. She had followed him from church to church, state to state, and finally to a foreign country as a missionary's wife; now she followed him into an uncertain future-but always by his side. Three boys chafed under her discipline, yet loved her beyond words. Five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren always loved to come to mamaw's house at Christmas; she always knew just what gifts to give. All her life she blessed others with her virtuoso talent at the piano, yet she was always quick to praise others who, in her mind, were better than she. Faithful to her family, faithful to her friends-but most of all, she was faithful to her Lord. "Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all."
Well done, mom...well done indeed.
