A Taylor High School graduate, class of 1958, Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Charles “Elvin” and Margaret Wright, her husband, Gerald “Chief” Meyer. Gerry and Sharon met while working on the Mississippi Queen. She had a longtime love affair with the Delta Queen Steamboat and worked for many years for the DQ Steamboat Company, first as Reservations Manager, then as Gift Shop Purser on each of the two boats.
Sharon’s greatest achievement, she would say, was the birth of her son, Mark Hemsteger, who passed away when he was only five years old. She has grieved for “Markie” all these years. Now they are together.
She will be missed by her sisters, Carolyn Turner(the late Doug) and Sally Hughes (the late Don), a niece, Beth Turner, three nephews, David Turner, Scott and Steven Butler and her dear friend Margie Abdon Moreland.
