A Tribute to our Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa

Thank you to everyone for being here today to celebrate in our father’s life.

Thank you to St. Antoninus for hosting the memorial mass and reception, a parish that our family has been members of for over 50 years.

Thank you to Father Earl Fernandes and Deacon Bob Schroeder, for leading us in this celebration.

And, thank you to the loving community of Renaissance West in Cincinnati Ohio, Harbor Chase in Tampa Florida, and his caregivers of Hospice of Cincinnati and Tampa. Dad felt very loved and we thank you for that.

The outpouring of love and fond memories shared with us during this time has touched our family. Our father had a very full life and we would like to take a few moments to share some beloved memories.

Dad grew up in Western Hills with his parents Rudy and Josephine Reinhold, and big brother Rudy. He attended St. William Catholic School and Elder High School, and then it was on to 1 year at the University of Cincinnati to try the football route, and then intelligently transferred to his beloved Notre Dame. Since his graduation in ’57 he has been a walking billboard for the school proudly wearing his blue and gold. And as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived, what better way to honor his loves that monogram their names on a favorite ND cap! Go Irish!

After college Dad went on to work with his father and brother Rudy in commercial real estate. Not long after, Dad told us that he noticed this beautiful woman that started working in the same office building, and found himself suddenly taking more frequent breaks to the water fountain! He started to court Marilyn with picnic lunches in Eden Park. Dad remembers a very special date at Beverly Hills Supper Club when they celebrated her 21st birthday with her first glass of champagne!

The Reinhold family began with our parents marrying in 1959. Marci came along in 1961 with Karin soon to follow, but only first with a tour around Germany courtesy of the Berlin Crisis! Dad and his buddies joined the National Guard and they agreed what better way to travel through Europe than bring your wife and kids with you as you served your country!

After returning home, Mom convinced Dad to “TRY” the east side. They moved into a home in Kenwood, but that only lasted a year … until they went back across town to Western Hills to extend their family.

Next in line was Jay, the first boy in the family, followed by Amy, Michael and Christopher. The family of 8 enjoyed many adventures. This past week we have enjoyed reminiscing about some wonderful memories made on family vacations to Callaway Gardens and Marco Island, along with some family events celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and weddings. Our family is growing and the love is being spread that was started by Mom and Dad over 62 years ago.

Dad successfully launched his children into the world, and we will be eternally grateful for his love and support. Dad’s love and family commitment really shines through in how we are so close as siblings. We so often hear, from friends and even strangers, “wow I can tell you guys are so close”. It is a true testament of Dad’s great fathering and his love of our family.

We found a birthday card from Dad to Mom with the following message:
The day we met some 44 years ago was truly a day that was designed by God and not by fate for it initiated a relationship of blessings and the utmost human rewards. As years advanced, each year brought numerous blessings with some challenges that have been successfully met with your faithful support, love and dedication. Our children are truly blessed to have a mother that has always given love and support, and grew to be a great example of a loving parent.
Signed – All my love, respect, fidelity and affection forever, Jack

Dad’s faith was strong, and a great support for him throughout his life. He served at St Antoninus at the festivals, fish fry’s and as an usher and lecturer. He was active in the Lions Club and various charities with his late wife, Marilyn. His Rosary was always with him (in his left pocket). As he became ill, his days were spent talking on the phone with his kids/grandkids, sleeping and praying. Always with his rosary.

He had many nicknames, a favorite was Action Jackson as he was always rearing to go, wanted to be involved in everything to do with his family and friends, and had a never quit attitude. He has shown his children what perseverance, an overtly positive attitude and ongoing faith will do which earned him the nickname “The Bull”.

Dad also instilled in us the value of friendship and the benefits of making great memories. He truly believed the more the merrier. We remember many gatherings where we made room for last minute guests. At the Reinhold house, Dad made everyone feel welcomed and part of the family. The “out-laws” as they were lovingly referred to, always said Dad made them feel like they were a true sibling!

We have many memories with Dad sharing his love of golf with us at WHCC, cheering on his Notre Dame, Bengal and Reds teams, laughing with him watching the Jackie Gleason and Honeymooner shows, driving through the night to maximize our time on vacation, and flocking the Christmas tree!

Dad was not only loved by his family. We have all received many thoughtful sentiments honoring and remembering our Dad. We thought we would share some:
• I knew Jack for 50+ years. I remember Jack as a man of integrity and high principals. Jack was the standard for the term, “Hail fellow well met”. Rest In Peace my friend.
• What a wonderful person your Dad was—a true gentleman that I always enjoyed being with! I am so sorry for you and all your family, but know that he is reunited with your mom and Brian and enjoying his reward for all the love he shared down here!
• I have been a big fan of Action Jackson since the day I met him. What a man, father, grandfather, and patriarch of an incredible family. He made this world a better place by his presence and his enduring legacy. Truly a life well lived.
• My family loved your parents and always enjoyed the many times we spent together growing up. These memories come up often with my family, always with love and laughter. Your Dad was so generous and always eager to help in any way. He was warm hearted, and devoted to his wife, children and friends.
• Jack was known for his generosity & kind heart; he was a man for others, always putting his family first.

Over this past week, we have shared our favorite pictures and memories with each other. We can only smile because of all the wonderful memories Dad was instrumental in creating for our family. He was always the positive force during the ups and downs. The biggest thing he taught us was “NEVER GIVE UP AND KEEP PUSHING FORWARD...Patience and Perseverance”. The BULL showed this in the way he lived and fought all the way to the end!

As so aptly stated by Christopher: Our Dad would give us whatever he had, as demonstrated by how he preserved to the end. He fought every minute to get one more minute of life and used it to the fullest of his ability. We will miss his voice, we will miss his classic stories, we will miss grabbing him a beer, we will miss his birthday songs, we will miss his love for all of us, we will miss calling him, we will miss his smile, we will miss him saying bullshit, we will miss his honesty, we will miss his being. He always told me he wanted to do one more big thing and I reminded him that he did the greatest thing anyone can ask for which is create the most amazing family anyone could every ask for. He accomplished more than any man could dream of. I thank the powers that be to have had the privilege to have one of the most amazing fathers.

We are proud to call him Dad, and thankful for all he taught us.

HEY MOM... please let Dad have some beers up there. He earned it!!

With all our love,

Marci, Karin, Jay, Amy, Michael and Christopher
